Alan D.A. Mattiassi, PhD

I am a psychologist of games, independent researcher, and educator. I use games as both a tool and a method to study human minds, brains, and behaviors, and as a means to foster understanding, learning, development, and motivation.

I hold a master’s degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in multimedia communication. My expertise lies in bridging psychology and games, contributing to the design and implementation of projects where this connection is essential. I design and develop games and game-based activities with educational and social change goals, working across design, development, and training. Over the years, I have collaborated with several universities and research teams, and I have contributed to EU-funded projects such as Free to Choose. I also gave a TEDx talk in Udine on how games help us understand ourselves.

Currently, I am Principal Investigator of the Committee on Research in Game Psychology at the GAME Science Research Center.

Sono uno psicologo del gioco, ricercatore indipendente ed educatore. Utilizzo i giochi sia come strumento che come metodo per studiare la mente, il cervello e i comportamenti umani, e come mezzo per favorire comprensione, apprendimento, sviluppo e motivazione.

Ho conseguito la laurea magistrale in psicologia e un dottorato di ricerca in comunicazione multimediale. La mia competenza si concentra nel collegare psicologia e giochi, contribuendo alla progettazione e realizzazione di progetti in cui questa connessione è fondamentale. Progetto e sviluppo giochi e attività game-based con finalità educative e di cambiamento sociale, occupandomi sia delle fasi di ideazione e sviluppo sia della formazione sull’educazione basata sul gioco. Nel corso degli anni ho collaborato con diverse università e gruppi di ricerca e ho contribuito a progetti europei come Free to Choose. Ho inoltre tenuto un intervento al TEDx Udine sul tema di come i giochi possano aiutarci a conoscere noi stessi.

Attualmente sono Principal Investigator del Committee on Research in Game Psychology presso il GAME Science Research Center.
